# Who can access the API

## Regulated Third Party Providers under PSD2

[Third Party Providers (TPPs)](/docs/guides/build-banking-apps/glossary) are authorized online service providers under PSD2 (Revised Payment Services Directive). If you are either a [Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP)](/docs/guides/build-banking-apps/glossary) or [Account Information Service Provider (AISP)](/docs/guides/build-banking-apps/glossary) in the European Union (EU) or the United Kingdom (UK), you are regulated by financial regulatory bodies in the relevant jurisdictions.

To access our Open Banking API, you must use a valid [eIDAS certificate](/docs/guides/build-banking-apps/introduction-to-the-open-banking-api/global-customer-access-controls#e-idas-certificates) or [Open Banking (OBIE) certificate](/docs/guides/build-banking-apps/introduction-to-the-open-banking-api/global-customer-access-controls#obie-certificates) to register your application for production.

To check additional regions covered by those certificates, refer to the [Global customer access controls](/docs/guides/build-banking-apps/introduction-to-the-open-banking-api/global-customer-access-controls).

:::note
eIDAS certificates are issued by Qualified Trust Service Providers (QTSPs) in the [European List of Trusted Services](https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/tl-browser/#/search/type/1).
